GEANHS bolster drug awareness campaign
In its commitment to prevent drug use and abuse among Imusenyo learners, GEANHS collaborated with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Imus City to conduct the Barkada Kontra Droga Campaign on July 18, 2019 at the RK Hall, Main Building. With a theme entitled “Paunlarin ang Kinabukasan; Droga ay Iwasan,” selected students and teachers attended the symposium with a goal of educating every learner with the consequences of drug abuse. The learning session was facilitated by PCPT Henry A. Salazar, Chief Intel of PNP Imus City.
GEANHS SCHOOL GOVERNING COUNCIL MEETING
Recognizing the need for collaboration of stakeholders, GEANHS initiated a School Governing Council meeting on July 17, 2019 at the Science Laboratory. Notable institutions, companies and organizations in the community took part in the significant endeavor, including the: Teachers and Employees Club; General Parent Teachers Association (GPTA); Philippine National Police (PNP); Cavite State University - Imus Campus; City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO); Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Pantawid Pamilya; and Chowking - SM Bacoor Branch. As community leaders, barangay chairpersons also participated in the council meeting: Ryan Jay Sapanghila of Palico II; Jennifer F. Pasamba of Palico III; and Marlo E. Dominguez of Palico IV.
LAUNCHING OF INSTRUCTIONAL MODULES FOR GRADE 10
Realizing the need for more learning materials, the Schools Division of Imus City initiated the creation of Grade 10 modules in various subject areas.
For over ten months, selected teachers from GEANHS and other secondary schools in Imus City, underwent trainings and workshops on writing content for learning materials.
Selected GEANHS teachers played a huge part in the fruition of the modules as writers, illustrators and editors: Anamarie G. Ricafort and Cynthia Aguilar for Araling Panlipunan; Banessa D. Medina and Jane Hazel H. Blanco for Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao; Ana Marie C. Balintad, Shyrene P. Goodrich and Roselyn F. Santos for Filipino; Maria Rowena Y. Lopez, Krystle Anne A. Sarocca and Melanie A. Magat for English; Joanne T. Camilon and Geraldine Elomina for Mathematics; Rubie G. Tagle and Geraldine P. Magdaong for Science; and Helen Marie F. Carreon and Bob C. Belocura Jr for MAPEH.
On July 15, module writers and school heads gathered at the Schools Division of Imus City for the launching of instructional modules.
2019 INTRAMURALS REVEL A CLASH OF COLORS
One of the most anticipated events in GEANHS is the annual intramural sports competition where the four year levels—represented by four colors—compete against one another: Grade 7 Green Tamaraws; Grade 8 Yellow Tigers; Grade 9 Red Fox; and Grade 10 Blue Falcons.
From July 11 to 12, competitors engaged in different sports such as volleyball, basketball, sepak takraw, and dancesport. Wearing their respective colors, students enthusiastically cheered on their teams to seize the gold.
For two days, student clubs and organizations organized vibrant and exciting booths that students can experience and interact with. Student leaders and club members not only enjoyed the collaboration but learned management and entrepreneurship as well.
After two days of physical events, Grade 9 Red Fox reigned supreme and took home the championship title.
The success of the two-day intramurals was a product of the partnership of subject teachers, advisers, curriculum chairpersons, HPTA and GPTA officers.
CFO CONDUCTS MIGRATION SYMPOSIUM FOR EMILIANS
The presence of millions of Filipinos abroad is one of the concerns of the Philippine government. To ensure that Filipinos understand migration, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas conducts Community Education Programs (CEP) in partnership with various academic institutions in the country.
On July 19, selected Emilians attended a Symposium on Filipino Overseas Workers conducted by CFO at the Rescue Kabataan Multi-purpose Hall. The information campaign informed learners on overseas employment, permanent residence abroad, and migration concerns.
The interactive discussion raised students’ awareness on various issues regarding government policies and programs that address human trafficking, illegal recruitment, and other related concerns.
GEANHS HOSTS DIVISION KICK OFF ON OPLAN KALUSUGAN SA DEPED
Recognizing the need to strengthen health and hygiene among Filipino learners in public schools, the Department of Education launched a holistic program that encompasses all DepEd health programs.
Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd One Health Week is conducted from July 22-26 to promote awareness and involvement on: School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP); National Drug Education Program (NDEP); Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) Program; Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in Schools (WinS) Program; Medical, Nursing, and Dental Services; and School Mental Health Program.
In the Schools Division of Imus City, the program was launched in GEANHS on July 22. SDS Hermogenes M. Panganiban, together with the school heads of all 35 schools in Imus City, gathered to support the program and encourage more partnerships for future health endeavors.
GEANHS PARTAKES IN DIVISION-LED CAREER GUIDANCE FOR SPED TEACHERS AND LEARNERS
As part of the celebration of National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, the Schools Division of Imus City conducted a Livelihood and Career Opportunity for SPED Teachers and Learners on July 10-11, 2019 at Imus Pilot Elementary School.
To guide learners on career trends and opportunities, selected SPED students engaged in livelihood workshops under the supervision of SPED teachers, Ms. Helen D. Cabanes and Mr. Raul S. Falogme, who also learned Career Guidance Practice and Skills to Facilitate Learners with Disabilities.
Aside from SPED teachers, Ms. Recheal B. Canlas, Ms. Merizza C. Tabaconj, Ms. Gretchen S. Torio and Ms. Rosita Gerona from GEANHS’ TLE Department facilitated the workshops on Food Processing for SPED learners.
GEANHS JOINS THE CELEBRATION OF 2019 NATIONAL DISABILITY PREVENTION AND REHABILITATION WEEK
To culminate on the birthdate of the sublime paralytic Apolinario Mabini on July 23, this year's 41st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week is celebrated from July 17 to 23, with the theme: “Lokal na Pamahalaan: Kabalikat sa Pagtupad ng Karapatan ng mga Taong May Kapansanan.”
Pursuant to Presidental Proclamation (PP) No. 1870, s. 1979, the week-long celebration aims to “stimulate public awareness on the problems of disability, and encourage every citizen to take active responsibility in the upliftment of the economic and social conditions of the PWDs of our society; thereby, encouraging them to take pro-active roles in nation building”.
To take part in the national event, GEANHS' Special Education (SPED) program conducted various events that encourage and empower SPED learners. Assisted by selected English teachers and students from the Special Program in Journalism, SPED learners engaged in interactive story-telling sessions.
Mr. and Ms. SPED highlighted the talents, creativity, and intelligence of Learners with Special Education Needs (LSEN). Clad in their glamorous dresses and suits, competitors strutted the runway with confidence and glee. They also showed their gifts through the talent portion where they sang and danced in delight.
The success of the event was made possible by the strong partnership of SPED teachers and parents, who worked together for the benefit of GEANHS' SPED learners.
GEANHS SUCCEEDS AT DIWANG KULTURANG FILIPINAS REGIONAL COMPETITION
After the success in the division level, Emilians once again competed to represent Imus City in the Diwang Kulturang Filipino Regional Competition. Students from all over CALABRZON gathered at Karangal Elementary School, Cainta, Rizal on July 5, 2019 for a fight of wits and skills.
Proving the competence of GEANHS students, Angelica Dela Cruz of X-Aristotle won 3rd Place for Digital Kwiz, under the mentorship of Ms. Joan B. Eustaquio. Rayven Ilagan of X-Nepomuceno also bagged 4th Place for Laron ng Lahi, under the guidance of Ms. Mylene A. Amparo
EMILIANS TO REPRESENT THE COUNTRY IN INTERNATIONAL MATH COMPETITIONS
GEANHS hones a new breed of Math whizzes through the Special Program in Science, Technology and Engineering. Three young mathematicians from VIII-Newton have been selected to participate in various competitions in ASEAn countries.
Allyssa Cassandra Q. Zapanta was selected for the Asia International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) 2019 to be held in Taiwan on August -8, 2019.
Mark Justin G. Rico was shortlisted for the World Talent International Mathematics Examination (WTIME) to be conducted on August 16-20, 2019 in Chiangmai, Thailand.
Sarah Elizabeth P. Marfil, will represent the school and the country in Singapore for the 2019 International Math Open for Young Achievers (IMOYA) on September 13-16.
All three students will undergo rigorous training in preparation for the upcoming competitions.
GEANHS RECEIVES “ALAGANG ATE LANI”
Strategically located along Aguinaldo Highway, GEANHS caters to learners from different towns and cities surrounding Imus City. Since its establishment in 1996, the population of Emilians rose from merely 150 to over 9,000 in School Year 2018-2019. Because of its location, over 60% of students enrolled are from the Bacoor City; thus, a partnership with their local government unit began.
In recognition of this collaboration, Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla visited GEANHS on July 9, 2019 to donate 250 arm chairs to be distributed to classes that are in need of chairs. “As a government unit, it is our duty to ensure that our students receive all the help that they need. We do all this for our young learners who study for a brighter future,” Mercado-Revilla shared during her speech.
Mrs. Lerma V. Pena, together with the Department Heads, selected teachers and students, received the donations in behalf of the entire school community. “We are happy that our leaders are devoted to improving the quality of education in our community,” Mrs. Pena happily imparted.
GEANHS will continue to commit to building partnerships for the benefit of Imusenyo learners.
GEANHS CONDUCTS OATH-TAKING CEREMONY FOR PARENT AND STUDENT LEADERS
The new school year marks a fresh beginning for the new set of officers of GEANHS Parent-Teacher Association (GPTA) and student organizations. Mrs. Lerma V. Peña, Principal IV, together with the Department Heads, led the oath-taking ceremony during the Opening Program of the Nutrition Month Celebration on July 4, 2019. "Let us be each other's guide as we pursue for new projects that will help our school and our children," shared Ms. Peña. The GPTA hopes to increase awareness and involvement of more parents for the success of the programs. Aside from the GPTA, student leaders from various clubs and organizations also proclaimed their commitment to their duties and responsibilities in unison.
JULY IS NUTRITION MONTH
GEANHS joins the nation in advocating healthy eating habits and active lifestyle among youth, with the theme: "Kumain ng Wasto at Maging Aktibo. Push Natin 'To!" To formally announce the beginning of Nutrition Month, the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Department, led by Mrs. Crisanta F. Caudal, organized the Opening Program on July 4 at the covered court. The highlight of the program was Nutrition Education, where Mrs. Donna F. Cabuco, NutriEd Coordinator, shared the value of carefully choosing and preparing meals. "If we want to live a long, healthy life, we have to remind ourselves to eat healthy in terms of quality and quantity," Mrs. Cabuco emphasized in her discussion. Aside from the prompt talk, attendees were given food samples of healthy snacks such as Chocolaya, a chocolate drink with ampalaya, and Veggie AKTS (Algugbati, Kamote tops, Talinum and Saluyot) fritters prepared by Mrs. Rona B. Alberto, SBFP Coordinator. For the rest of July, the TLE Department will be conducting a series of activities promoting health and nutrition using various media and student competitions.
General Emilio Aguinaldo National High School Celebrates Nutrition month 2019 with a Blast!
During the month of July 2019, General Emilio Aguinaldo National High School celebrated Nutrition Month with the theme, “Kumain ng Wasto at Maging Aktibo, Push Natin To.” The celebration aims to strengthen and promote healthy diet and active lifestyle among students and adults alike. In support of the objectives of the theme, the TLE Department organized competitions for the whole month of July. TLE teachers encouraged students from all year levels to join and support the activities during the Nutrition Month celebration.
The celebration started with the Poster Making Contest, where students were encouraged to create posters relevant to the theme. Other competitions included: Vegetable Planting Contest; Hair and Make-up Competition; Spoken Word Poetry; Photo Contest; Nutri-Drinks; Complete Meal; and Experimental Fish Dish.
One of the highlights of the Nutrition Month celebration was the Jingle Competition where sections from different grade levels competed with each other by creating and performing their own songs, promoting health, nutrition and exercise. The unique and creative choreography put into each song made the performances more interesting and fun to watch. Nonetheless, the effort that each student exerted in order to come up with a great performance was undeniably commendable. The Grand Finals of the Jingle Competition, as well as the Awarding and Closing Ceremony, took place on the 23rd of July 2019. The ten best performances vied for the title and in the end, Section SPJ 10-Love Jhoy was hailed as the Grand Champion for this school year.
